Punta Fuego Photos
13 photos · 19 Jul 2007
Spent a weekend at Punta Fuego at Nasugbu Batangas. The beach was fun. There was a yacht club too. The drinks were insane!
There’s a place with a kubo facing the sunset. There’s a rock wall to prevent people from jumping off the cliff! hahaha!
Thanks to Miko for all these photos!
Nice time.

Tam-awan Village Baguio
13 photos · 3 Jun 2007
Tam-awan Village in Baguio City features authentic Ifugao huts, an Art Gallery and Crafts shop, a coffee shop, Fishpond, Eco-tours, art workshops and cultural shows. The village recently appeared in “Asian Treasures” (Robin Padilla, Angel Locsin) as part of the hunt for anting-antings.
I visited the village together with a couple of friends one Saturday afternoon. We were lucky to witness some Igorot dances by a youth dance troupe. It was a lot of fun for us watching the dances, hearing the gongs and other bamboo instruments. High point was when the dance troupe invited guests to dance with them. I took a gong, went with the beat and followed the dance of the leader.
Catch the community dancing every Saturday afternoon.

Avilon Zoo Photos
38 photos · 19 Jul 2007
I’ve been to Avilon Zoo in Montalban. It’s awesome! I can compare it to Featherdale and Sea World in Sydney Australia, compare it to Underwater World in Singapore and Ocean Park in Subic and I can say Avilon Zoo is world-class!
Avilon is a 7.5 hectare zoo with a lake, some fishing activities, a bird show, some pets for sale, chance to touch a python (photo op!). It takes around 2 and a half hours to tour the whole zoo. Afterwhich there are activities you can do (fishing, boating, eating, sleeping) before you head back to the urban jungle.
They have a wide collection of exotic animals from big cats (leopards, pumas, lions, tigers), big fish (ARAPAIMAS!), nocturnal animals, primates, birds (ostriches, look for the talkative mynah), tapirs, hyenas, and animals endemic to the Philippines (Palawan mouse deer, bearcat (?), tarsier etc.).
Avilon zoo continues to develop the property. Expect more animals and activities in the coming years.

Went to Binondo for the Chinese New Year.
Lots of lions and dragons dancing in the streets.
Highlight: a rag-tag group of street kids with a box with a drawing of a fierce lion and a blanket behind the box and a couple of tabos and timbas and cans for drums.

Oh My Gulay - Vegetarian Resto and Gallery
29 photos · 20 May 2007
“Most people think the attraction is the food. Actually, it’s an art gallery that happens to serve vegetarian food. ”
This is how Kidlat Tahimik explained to me what Oh My Gulay is all about.
First second I walked in, I said to myself “This is an extension of Kidlat’s house! It’s a playground!”
All the artworks, the twists and turns, the absence of structure, the patch-art-work, the eclectic, the journey, the ever-changing.
And the people. I like watching people. These and more - what makes Oh My Gulay a great place to hang out.

Panagbenga - Baguio Flower Festival 2007
87 photos · 1 Mar 2007
After a series of “challenging” years, Baguio is once again celebrating a “normal” Panagbenga (Flower Festival). Among the previous years’ difficulties were the meningo scare, strong rains during Flower Fest parades and (worst!) having two Flower Festival organizers — trust the politicians to make the worst out of a good thing.
But all is nice and rosy once again for the Baguio Flower Festival 2007. The Baguio Flower Festival is in Bloom Anew!
I was at the street dancing parade this morning along with a million others joining the festivities. The crowds were sooo thick, I thought I was re-living my past life as a sardine! Except for the huge crowds and traffic, all else was Lovely!

Hot Air Balloon Night Glow
21 photos · 12 Feb 2006
The show continues …
The balloons rev it up for a light show called Night Glow. The Balloons are inflated and tethered to the ground. They display their full glory in bursts of light from the flames.
It’s a beautiful sight! Like a child telling stories after an adventure around town…
Let me hear those stories …

Fly in
7 photos · 12 Feb 2006
In the afternoon, some of the hot air balloons come back to fly in.
It’s a sweet reunion, seeing how these balloons have gone on a journey and are back with a couple hundred kilometers more and many wonderful sights more under its belt.
Did the balloons enjoy the ride of Philippines skies?

Paramotoring
25 photos · 12 Feb 2006
Para motoring is a combination of a para-gliding canopy and a huge electric fan strapped to the back of the paramotorist. The fan gives a forward thrust which in turn allows the canopy to lift the rider.
There were two guys, Julius and Pascal, from the Paramania demo team who came over from UK. They gave the audience quite a show.
They flew all over the place, doing a dance in the air. It reminded me of Harry Potter and flying brooms — being able to go to any space in air at touch of a fingertip.
Julius and Pascal did some swirling and would touch the tips of each other’s chutes. They dropped long orange ribbons which they used to line the skies.
Radical!

Fly Out
39 photos · 12 Feb 2006
It was a wonderful sight, these balloons at the 10th Hot Air Balloon Fiesta in Clark airbase.
I was there early in the morning to watch the pilots and crew setup the balloons.
They inflated the balloons with hot air from flames, with a little help from large electric fans.
Once inflated, the balloons seem to want to fly out quickly!
It was an awesome morning, let me share some photos with you …

Here are some of them …

It was a nice quiet weekday morning and it had rained the night before.
Take a look at the old antique doors, clay pots, Spanish architecture, old buildings, some church photos, brick walls etc.

I stayed in Cuyo, Palawan for one year (June 1998 - March 1999). My first meaningful website, Guro sa Cuyo, was borne out of Cuyo.
Here I share photos taken by my friend, Ronald Palay, circa 2000.
