Green Malls
2 photos · 12 Jun 2008
It started with SM. They invited people to bring their recyclables to the SM parking lot on a specific saturday of the month. Recyclables were collected, some of the trash was converted into cash. And this was happening in all SM malls all around the country.
Trash to Cash Recycling market at SM Supermalls
Then Ayala launched their Recyclables Fair also. Ayala’s Fair happens at different Ayala malls on different days.
Ayala Recyclables Fair
Great Green Program
I can’t help but think that there’s a person or group that deliberately brought the idea to the biggest malls in the country. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Robinson’s chain of malls starts doing this too.

Globe AutoloadMax Vending Machine
9 photos · 4 Jun 2008
In 2006, I wrote about the iLoad Vending Machine that uses a touch-screen monitor and sells airtime load for many telcos.
There’s another airtime load vending machine. It’s a Globe Autoload Max Vending Machine.
I saw it at the parking lot of Makati Medical Center across the People Support building, across Mc Donald’s at the driver’s waiting area.
The vending machine has a 4-line LCD Display, a numeric keypad a coin slot that accepts P1, P5 and P10 coins.
Interesting that these machines accept only coins. They’re obviously aiming for the market segment that loads just P10 to P25 pesos of load. On the other hand, the iLoad Vending Machines accept larger denomination paper bills and sell load in the P100-P150 range.

Apple Mac Book Air - Super Thin, as in!
6 photos · 4 Jun 2008
I saw the apple logo on top and exclaimed: “Is that THE Apple Mac Book Air ?!” It was soooo thin, it looked like a folder.
Here are some photos of the Mac Book Air , also compared to a Sony Ericsson phone and a IBM Thinkpad. Note that the Thinkpad monitor is lifted up, so the thickness seen in the photo is already half of the think pad thickness — and the airbook is thinner than half of the Thinkpad!
Some remarks on the Apple Mac Book Air
Great form-factor they have in that Mac Book Air ! Do we expect anything less from Apple?
Battery life, I hear, isn’t so good at around 2 hours.
When my friend T is done with her MAc BookAir , she just flips closed the Mac Book Air and puts it in her bag — no logging out, no hibernate, no shutting down. When she opens the lid of the Air Book, it boots almost instantly and it’s good to go.

Manila Ocean Park - Oceanarium

The Manila Ocean Park Features the Riches of Philippine Marine Life (on PinoyTravelBlog.com)
I didn’t think the Manila Ocean Park would be big. But Manila Ocean Park is indeed world-class — at least that’s the plan.
The Manila Ocean Park is “a marine themed park bringing together in one complex an Oceanarium, a mall, a restaurant row, boutique hotel, open water marine habitats and multi-purpose function facilities.”
The park has a huge lobby with huge photos of marine life to whet the appetite of visitors, and food stalls to fill the stomach too. Visitors make their way through a series of aquariums beside stairways and artificial waterfalls in a section named “agos”. There’s a portion where visitors can touch some starfish. There are more marine life in the “Bahura” and “Laot” sections of the oceanarium. The beautiful colors of the corals had awestruck until I realized they were fake. It’s interesting that all the marine life in the entire park are found in Philippine seas. Nothing foreign here, except for some visitors, maybe.
The underwater tunnel of the “Buhay ng Karagatan” section is the real feature of the tour. The stingrays are wonderful, like graceful birds “flying” in the water. You could almost touch the fish except for the glass that divides their world from ours. There’s more sharks in the “Ang Kalaliman” section with an overhanging tank where you can see the bellies of various sharks. The multimedia facility has some interactive games.
To the management and the World Wildlife Fund for Nature (WWF, partner of the Manila Ocean Park), take care of the marine life, and take care of your patrons too! All the best!

Photos of 12th Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta
20 photos · 11 Feb 2008
The annual Philippine International Hot Air Balloon Fiesta (PIHABF) is the country’s biggest aviation sports event today. Hot air balloon and airplane pilots from all over the world fly into the Philippines to join their local counterparts in this breathtaking event. In addition to daily flights of the hot air balloons, other activities include: skydiving, daily flag jumps (a skydiver jumps with the Philippine flag while the National Anthem is played to the start of the day’s activities); micro light demonstrations; small planes fly-bys and fly-ins; remote controlled airplanes exhibitions; aerobatics; light airplane balloon bursting competition; ultra-light formation flying and bomb dropping exhibitions; helicopter fly-ins and exhibitions; an air rally from Clark to Vigan; rocketry demonstrations; kite flying exhibitions; and races between ultra lights and motorcycles.
Be sure to be there early in the morning. Be there by 5am if you want to catch the Balloons being set up at dusk. It’s just awesome watching those balloons transform from flat pieces of linen to graceful and colorful flying balloons! The balloons are the real stars in the Fiesta. The sunrise and the morning sunlight is a show in itself as well! Thank you Lord!

Hongkong Style Noodles - not franchising
5 photos · 6 Feb 2008
Hongkong Style Noodles is not open for franchising. We confirmed this when we asked an attendant at Robinson’s Galleria if they were open for franchising. They confirmed that they were NOT open for franchise.
A sign states the same categorically. That’s because some unscrupulous people have been claiming to be selling a franchise of “hongkong noodle style”!
Ibang tao talaga, kung maka-loko… tsk tsk tsk …
See the announcement in one of my photos in this album.

Photos of Lyceum of the Philippines University in General Trias Cavite .
It’s an interesting building they’re building near Manggahan in Gen Trias Cavite. It’s going to be the “resort” campus of Lyceum in Cavite.
A friend of mine says it looks like an overturned boat … or an overturned Noah’s ark, if you will.
Architecture is art. I like the building and its a refreshing addition to the box-type architecture common in the export processing zones in Cavite.
Expect courses such as Hotel & Restaurant Management, Business Ad, Information Technology, Tourism Management, Foreign Service and Communications. The campus opens on June 2008. Nice!

So might as well publish my own collection of mirror projects. here goes …

Punta Riviera, Bolinao
22 photos · 16 Dec 2007
I can tell that the resort is rather new (found out later: it opened to the public in 2005), had a well manicured lawn and very pleasant staff. The room was elegant with a queensize bed, a satellite TV and DVD player.
The resort has a bar and restaurant. There’s a nice 2-level pergola for a nice dinner by candlelight ;-).
The infinity pool is pretty, host for a pleasant dip for kids and adults alike. At an angle, the pool looks as if it extends all the way to the sea and the horizon. The resort is right smack at the point where a river (Ilog Malino) meets the sea.

There’s a new Carnival in town. And it’s huge! Far better than Boom na Boom, Star City and other carnivals we’ve (out-)grown to love.
It’s right next to the phenomenal Mall of Asia and it’s sure to attract the crowds (and traffic). The place is poised to be the place to be during the Christmas holidays revelry.
Global Fun Carnival is the first european-style carnival to travel into Asia and is also the only carnival in the world to bring The Booster, which is one of the only 2 in the world, to Asia.
Global Fun Carnival uses the latest and most advanced games and rides in the world, with most of the rides coming from Italy and Germany. All of these rides have passed the TUV World Safety Standards and have also passed China’s Standard Safety Measures and have been highly-acclaimed for its safety. Trinoma - Triangle north of Makati
An Ayala Mall in Quezon City near SM North Edsa. I hear it’s very pretty. It is huge, at the north end of the MRT. Eventually it will become another transport and entertainment hub.
I hear there’s a nice fountain that shoots water from the ground floor to the second floor, and from the second floor to the third floor. Nice, huh?
I’ll add photos to this album next time I get the chance.
